Experimental results on neoclassical tearing mode stabilization by radio frequency waves

Neoclassical tearing modes (NTMs) may limit performance in Next Step tokamaks, degrading confinement and possibly leading to disruption. In recent years, excellent experimental and theoretical progress has been made in understanding NTMs and their control. The properties of NTMs and various stabilization schemes are described. Recent experimental results on the stabilization of NTMs using radio frequency waves are reviewed and outstanding issues discussed.
