A detailed numerical study of magnetic reconnection in resistive MHD for very large, previously inaccessible, Lundquist numbers is reported. Large-aspect-ratio Sweet-Parker current sheets are shown to be unstable to super-Alfvenically fast formation of plasmoid (magnetic-island) chains.
